“B” is for Baby and the Birds & the Bees!

Just a few months ago Jessica and I were fortune enough to be able to design and coordinate a  themed baby shower for my Sister-in-Law. It was hosted by her Mother Connie, who has a beautiful home out in Olathe where the event took place. After intently researching many themes, I came across the talented and creative blog of the Ladies at Lollipop Events & Designs. They had done a beautiful baby shower with the theme of “B” is for Baby Shower and I absolutely fell in love.  With the help of Kalyn at Lilah Papers, another super talented and amazing custom design studio here in Kansas City, we were able to portray the theme “B” is for Baby and the Birds & the Bees!

Even the return address had the theme carried out with buzzing bees!

For any afternoon event you want to keep the food spread on the lighter side, so with no hesitation we choose to work with Jeff from Lon Lane’s Inspired Occasions. Jeff was very creative and kept with our overall theme of  “B”s with the concept of the menu. For the Savories Buffet the menu included:

With Granny Smith apples, onion, garlic, celery. Seasoned with nutmeg, salt and pepper and a touch of maple syrup. Garnished with red and green apples.
(This we served “tea style”)

Savory bite size mini tarts featuring a wild mushroom ragout and gruyere cheese custard baked until golden. Served warm.

Cucumber on honey sunflower wheat bread with watercress.
Dilled egg salad on rye bread triangles, garnished with a radish triangle and parsley sprig.
Fruited chicken salad on homemade mango bread.

The beverages included:

Served with Cinnamon stir sticks

Served with “B is for Baby” straws

The Sweets Buffet included:

Chocolate-pumpkin brownies
Lemon curd tarts with fresh raspberry garnish
Freshly baked Chocolate Souffle cookies
Inside-out strawberry cheesecakes

The main inspiration for colors and flowers came from the Amy Butler fabric I purchased to make runners for all the tables. I loved the playfulness of the fabric especially for a baby shower and tried to portray that through the decor.

To tie in the theme of the “Birds and the Bees” I placed colorful birds and little bees throughout the flowers and the food/decor labels.

I also covered a large cardboard “B” that you can be purchased at any craft store with the same Amy Butler fabric for and statement piece on the entrance table.

As a take away gift guests received Baby Bootie-shaped sugar cookies with Burt’s Bees Lip Balm.

Overall both Jessica and I had a blast being able to work with all the talented vendors and want to thank everyone who helped to make this a fun and relaxing baby shower for not only a good friend but also my Sister-In-Law. Little Ruthie will soon be joining us in less than 2 weeks and all of us couldn’t be happier!
